Saying I love pizza might be an understatement. But sometimes, I get bored with the traditional toppings on crust, so I'm always on the lookout for some other form of pizza-type goodness. This fairly well hits the spot!
Ingredients List:
1 pound Pizza Sausage
2x 13.8 oz Refrigerated Pizza Crusts
2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
1/2 cup Marinara Sauce
1 cup Chopped Red or Yellow Sweet Peppers
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan Cheese
1/4 teaspoon Garlic and Herb Seasoning
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
In a large skillet over medium heat cook sausage, onions, and garlic until sausage is done.
Stir in Garlic and Herb Seasoning.
Drain off fat and set it aside.
Shape one dough into a 12-inch circle.
Press dough into the bottom and up the sides of a 10-inch oven-safe skillet.
Sprinkle 1/2 the cheese over the bottom crust.
Top with meat mixture.
Spread the 1/2 cup of Marinara Sauce over the meat and sprinkle the Peppers over the sauce.
Top with remaining cheese.
Roll the remaining dough portion into another 12-inch circle.
Place the dough over the filling.
Pinch and roll the edges of the bottom crust and top crust together to seal.
Brush the top crust with Olive Oil.
Sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese and Garlic and Herb Seasoning.
Using the tip of a sharp knife, cut 3-4 slits in the top crust.
Bake for about 25 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.
Note - clearly I added stuff to my calzone that isn't in the recipe. And I got ready-made pizza toppings from the store, so I didn't have to cook anything.
